This is the room people ask for again when they come back.
It runs the width of the old house, so the light moves across it all day — in from the terrace in the morning, across the parquet by late afternoon. The floor is the original herringbone, lifted and relaid board by board during the restoration. We left the big door its terracotta colour and painted the frame the same green as the rest of the house.
There is an oak bed, a small round table for the teapot, and honestly quite a lot of empty floor, which after a day of driving between wineries turns out to be the point. Two black cord pendants hang low on either side of the bed for reading.
The terrace outside is yours. It looks over the rooftops towards town, and it catches the morning sun, so if you want breakfast out there instead of at the long table downstairs, say so the night before and we will bring it up.
